Early in our career, we needed a platform from which to launch our quest for world domination through juggling. We were doing ok, but we were starring in an independent, black and white, silent film called, “Jon and Owen’s Aspiring Career.” And then, twenty-five years ago this week, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson took a chance on us. Suddenly, our world was huge, and in Technicolor. We had credibility. We had pizzazz! We were sexy and alluring. Well, we had pizzazz.
We had only been working together for two years, and barely knew what we were doing. But the people from The Tonight Show liked us, booked us, and suddenly everything began to change.
Sometimes all it takes is someone who believes in you, and who is willing to give you a chance. Who helped you along the way? Surely you didn’t do everything yourself. Look back and think about someone who helped bump your career, or your life, to the next level. And tell others about that person. He or she deserves a
Actually, the man who booked us on the show, who changed the careers of so many, was Jim McCawley. He saw us accidentally, while at The Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach previewing up-and-coming, young comic, David Spade. He didn’t like David, and booked us instead. Sorry, David.
